SELFA's Puppet workshops

Skipton Extended Learning for All (SELFA) was founded to provide an inclusive holiday club for primary-aged children. Since then it has grown to support over 350 vulnerable, disadvantaged and disabled young people aged 4-19. They provide activities including multiple, specialist after-school clubs, holiday workshops, family trips and residential opportunities.

Thanks to funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery, the group was able to team up with the Skipton International Puppet Festival in September 2017. This partnership was brought about so that the group could offer workshops that were completely different from what was previously on offer. These workshops imparted creative skills in both making puppets and also learning to perform, which culminated in a procession on the final day of the Festival.

What was originally projected to involve 50 young people resulted in 84 participating, such was the popularity of the course.
